Appartement Herengracht
Appartement Herengracht
A renovation of an apartment in a canal house along the Herengracht in Amsterdam. The owner of the house wanted this place to be upgraded and made suitable for renting expats. Within a limited time and budget we were free to do it our way.
A birch-plywood clad core contains kitchen, toilet and bathroom. The rough red painted wall in the livingroom and the not-treated beams in the apartment contrasts with the refined timberwork of this core-element.
The entrance leads without interruption to the livingroom. A strategic placed column marks the end of the corridor and beginning of the living room. Inside this column intercom apparatus and lightswitches are hidden. Even the hatstand in this apartment is designed by us. Each room has two entrances to produce a feeling of openness to this relatively small appartment. This work is done in collaboration with Philp Breedveld.
